Santorini - Mediterranean Legend in White and Blue

Light & Land Tour

I am thrilled to be returning to this spectacular Greek island for what promises to be a feast of photographic opportunities when the wild flowers start to bathe many of the hillsides in resplendent colour. Many of the villages are perched on the edge of one of the most spectacular volcanic calderas on the planet. The magnificent views from the edge of the caldera take in picturesque villages scattered with the exquisite blue domed churches for which the Greek island is famed.

Dolomites - The Pale Alps

Light & Land Tour

The Dolomites are amongst Europe’s greatest sights with jagged peaks aplenty and beautiful valleys throughout the area. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a photographer’s dream, with changeable weather offering dramatic light, great shapes and textures to play with and explore.

Our tour will take advantage of a stay in both the eastern and western regions so we can explore the most spectacular areas of this dramatic landscape. This early summer period features flowers bursting into life in the meadows and the area is relatively quiet before the summer rush. There is usually snow still on the high peaks offering a great variety of image making opportunities.

Reflections of Bruges

Light & Land Tour

Thanks to its canals and more than 80 bridges, Bruges is often referred to as the Venice of the North. Most of its period architecture remains intact making Bruges one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. Cobblestone streets, windmills and spires all add to its charm. This tour will take place in early December when the light is low, and shadows are long.

A Unesco World Heritage Site, Bruges is a photographer’s heaven, offering us countless views along its canals spanned by bridges, each of which has its own character. The reflections in the water feature all colours under the sun and resemble those found in Venice. We will have ample opportunity to photograph intricate architectural details and pastel-coloured houses with distinctive crow-stepped gables.

Andalucia - Almond Blossom & Architecture

Light & Land Tour

Andalucia is arguably the most exotic and stunning region in all of Spain. With its remarkable architecture and breathtaking landscape, the region has evolved into a wonderful amalgam of Moorish culture and recent Spanish tradition.

Every year in February, the hills and valleys of the magnificent Las Alpujarras become clothed in a sea of pale pink blossom as hundreds of thousands of almond trees burst into life with a truly memorable show that can be seen from many kilometres away.

Our tour is as much for the ubiquitous almond blossom as it is for the remarkably pleasing architecture to be found throughout the region. We’ll visit Granada and its Alhambra Palace, Seville and Ronda, and some of the ‘Pueblos Blancos’ - the white villages that are so typical of the region.

Valencia - A City of Contrasts

Light & Land Tour

Valencia is one of Spain’s most exciting cities to visit and photograph. Founded in 138BC, it has a long and colourful history, influenced by Romans, Moors, Visigoths and Christians.

This tour will give us the chance to soak up Valencia's atmosphere and explore its character with our cameras, from the medieval past that shaped its old town El Carmen to the futuristic Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències – the City of Arts and Sciences. At this time of year, the city is buzzing with excitement as the festivities connected with the Fallas Festival get under way. And of course there will be time to sample the traditional hot chocolate and churros, as well as enjoy paella in the city that claims to have invented it.

Bath Impressions - Creative Photography meets Christmas in the Georgian City of Bath

Light & Land Workshop

For this workshop, I will team up with Bill Ward.

Nestled in a cosy corner of the south west of England, and only an hour and a half on the train from the capital, Bath has one of the most atmospheric and photogenic city centres in the UK. Blessed with some of the finest Georgian architecture this country has to offer, including the famed Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge et al, it’s a treasure trove of historical quirk and charm. And at Christmas time, with its host of independent shops and restaurants, it truly comes alive.

Cosmopolitan Liverpool

Light & Land Workshop

Light & Land founder Charlie Waite will join me to host the group in Liverpool.

The ‘Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City’ was a UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2004 to 2021 - testament to the historical significance of the development of port and city, which accelerated in the 18th century and has taken an interesting positive turn lately. We will start our workshop at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral, a spectacular building, the likes of which one is hard pressed to find elsewhere. The group will then move to the city’s waterfront with its eclectic mix of old and new architecture, where we will have countless opportunities to capture Liverpool’s cosmopolitan character and rustic charm.

Docklands to Dusk - A London Workshop

Light & Land Workshop

As the river Thames sneaks its way from the Isle of Dogs towards the City of London, it serves as the focus for our workshop. We will use the day to explore both the old and new of London’s iconic skyline, as well as discovering lesser-known views of an area that has undergone dramatic changes in recent years. We start on the Isle of Dogs and finish at dusk near London Bridge.

Puglia

Light & Land Tour

At the heel of Italy, Puglia is an untapped gem for photographers. Its long history as a melting pot of wealthy civilisations during Greek, Roman and Baroque times, coupled with its fertile soil, extensive coastline and unique trulli architecture that is still lived in today, makes Puglia a truly exceptional destination.

Our days will include a rich mix of landscape and architecture, including classic views and alternative image making opportunities, from the fertile fields of central Puglia, dotted with the entrancing cone-topped round trullis, huge olive trees gnarled over hundreds of years and small vineyards, to the Greek-looking whitewashed hilltop and coastal villages with their narrow alleyways and often crumbling features.
