Photography Club for Beginners - Riverhouse Barn, Walton-on-Thames

The course will consist of six studio sessions covering the basics of photography, such as rules of composition, shutter speed, aperture, depth of field and the characteristics of light, and of course the setup of your camera. Between sessions you have time to practise what you learn with support available throughout. Course material will be provided and is yours to keep. There are no requirements for specific camera equipment, although mobile phone cameras are not suitable.

This course is particularly suitable for those who have recently acquired a DSLR or compact system camera but have not yet moved away from the Auto Mode of their camera. Owners of compact cameras will find this course equally useful.

For more information, or to book your place, please contact tryphena@riverhousebarn.co.uk or phone 01932 254 198, or get in touch with me via the contact page. For more information about the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, click here.

YORK - ENGLAND's ETERNAL CITY

Founded by the Romans, later called Jórvík by the Vikings, York has played an important role in England’s history for close to 2000 years. It is a city of great beauty, enticing visitors with its timeless charm, which makes it a photographer’s dream. Our workshop will be based in the medieval centre, where we can best appreciate York’s rich and colourful character. Short strolls will take us down narrow streets, little changed since the Middle Ages, and some of the easily missed Snickelways.

COSMOPOLITAN LIVERPOOL

The ‘Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City’ was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 - testament to the historical significance of the development of port and city, which accelerated in the 18th century and has taken an interesting positive turn lately.

We will start our photography workshop at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral, a spectacular building, the likes of which one would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The group will then move to the city’s waterfront with its eclectic mix of old and new architecture, where we will have countless opportunities to capture Liverpool’s cosmopolitan character and rustic charm.
