Halle, Saale
This project took me to the Hildebrand Mill (Hildebrandsche Mühlenwerke) in Halle, a listed industrial heritage site by the river Saale that was torched twice but failed to fall. After production ceased in the early Seventies, the owners' villa on the site housed a children's nursery, which I attended, and later a children's home. The mill has now been sold and the new owner is busy cleaning up some of the mess and digging out the old turbines, which apparently are in really good shape given their age. They shall, if all goes well, produce electricity in the not too distant future.
